Cleon Cassel compiled a 30-4 dual meet record over a three-year span. He was undefeated (10-0) in his senior year, when he served as a co-captain. Three of his losses were by one point, each time to Dave Auble, an Olympian and two-time NCAA champion. In 1959, he placed third in the EIWA tournament and in 1960 he placed fourth at 130 pounds. He won the Uncle Charlie Mayser Award in 1959 and 1960. He was a three-time Middle Atlantic AAU champion. Since graduation, he has taught and coached at Lower Dauphin High School where his wrestlers have compiled a record of 297 wins, 32 loses, and four ties. He has produced five undefeated teams and a state champion, and in 1980 he was voted AAA Coach of the Year for Pennsylvania. He holds a master's degree from Shippensburg University. He lives in Hummelstown, PA. His son, Craig, is a junior at F&M and a member of the Diplomat wrestling squad.
