LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's cross country team is set for the Centennial Conference (CC) Championships this Saturday in Stevenson, Md. The event, hosted by Johns Hopkins on the campus of Stevenson University, will crown individual and team champions within the conference.
The Diplomats have competed well throughout the fall, finishing in the top half of every race in October.
Senior Julia Zielinski has led F&M this season, finishing first for the Diplomats in each race. Her best finishes include sixth place at the Little Three Meet and an 11th place finish at the Gettysburg Invite. Grace Adams has enjoyed a quality sophomore season, placing 15th at the Little Three and 49th at the Gettysburg Invitational. Senior Rachel Weiss has also competed well, earning 30th at the Little Three and 59th at Gettysburg while freshman Amelia Cadwell placed 91st out of 281 at the Paul Short Run. Solid efforts from Kathleen McCutcheon, Abby Grehlinger, Caroline Kearney, and Meredith Malcolm have contributed to the consistently strong team results.
Zielinski, Adams, McCutcheon, and Weiss all competed in F&M's top seven at last season's conference championships, with Zielinski topping the group with a 47th place finish in 24:18.1. Adams' time of 24:41.1 was good for 56th. McCutcheon earned a 76th place finish with a time of 25:36.0, and Weiss took 84th in 25:58.4.
The Diplomats' highest finish was third place in 1999. Johns Hopkins has won the past seven team championships, a streak only bettered by Dickinson's run of eight straight from 2000-2007.
F&M's only individual champion was Jamie Kendig in 1994, though Diplomats have been named All-Centennial on 10 different occasions.
