CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team remained unbeaten in Centennial Conference (CC) play after Saturday's 3-1 (25-9, 25-27, 25-22, 25-20) victory over Washington College.
The Diplomats improved to 17-3, 8-0 CC while the Shorewomen fell to 7-16, 1-6 CC.
The opening set began with an early 3-3 tie before F&M turned up the throttle, going on a 12-1 run that included seven straight points to take a 15-4 lead en route to the 25-9 win.
Washington jumped out to a 6-1 lead at the beginning of set two. The Diplomats battled back on a 12-6 run to take a 13-12 lead. The Shorewomen then went on a 5-0 run of their own to take a 17-13 lead before F&M stormed back again to take a 23-21 lead on an 8-2 run. Washington tied the score at 23 and then 24 points apiece to force extra points. The Shorewomen soon got three points in a row to win the set, 27-25.
F&M and Washington split the first 18 points of the third set, 9-9. The Diplomats went no a 12-4 run to take a 21-13 advantage before the Shorewomen took nine of the next 12, tightening the score to 24-22 before F&M took the last point in a 25-22 set victory.
After dropping the first three points of set four, the Diplomats turned in a 15-10 run to take a 15-13 lead. Washington picked up the pace, tying the score at 20-20. Grace Maggiore and Nicole Carey each picked up two kills in a set-and-match-clinching 5-0 run to win 25-20.
Carlita Bozzo paced the F&M defense with 15 digs.
The Diplomats return to CC action Wednesday, hosting Bryn Mawr in the Mayser Center at 7:00 PM.
