F&M Heads to Providence for NCAA Volleyball First Round

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team will travel to Johnson & Wales (Rhode Island) to take on SUNY New Paltz in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, Nov. 9 at 5:30 p.m.

Tournament Outlook: Friday's clash between the Diplomats (23-7) and SUNY New Paltz  (26-8) is one of 16 first-round matchups to be played in the tournament. Friday's winner will face either Johnson & Wales (28-1), who is ranked second nationally, or Eastern Connecticut State (23-6) in the regional semifinals on Saturday.

Series History: The Diplomats faced the Hawks for the first time last season, falling by a 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 26-24) score on Sept. 15.

Tournament History: This is F&M's first Tournament berth since 2014, and seventh overall.  

How They Got Here: F&M earned one of 21 at-large bids into the 64-team tournament after falling to McDaniel by a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-22) score in the Centennial Conference (CC) Semifinals on Saturday afternoon. 

New Paltz earned an automatic qualifier after defeating SUNY Geneseo 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-23) in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship. 

Johnson & Wales notched their fourth-straight Great Northeast Atlantic Conference (GNAC) Championship after defeating Rivier 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-18) to nab the automatic qualifier.

Eastern Connecticut State also took home their conference title, downing Keene State College 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-18, 25-21) in the Little East Conference Tournament to earn the automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament.
