LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-22) battle to McDaniel in the Centennial Conference (CC) Semifinals on Saturday afternoon.
The Diplomats dropped to 23-7 while the Green Terror will continue onto the CC Finals in Lancaster tomorrow.
Back-to-back kills from Allison Franke helped F&M to a 2-1 lead to open the match. A kill from Grace Polisano extended the Diplomats' lead to 10-7. McDaniel responded, tying the frame at 13-13 and going on a 4-1 run to take the lead. A Barbara Kapustin kill brought F&M within one at 17-16, but the Green Terror kept the pace to take the first set 25-20.
McDaniel jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the second set, but a Franke kill capped off a 2-0 run to keep F&M within one. Carly Ostrowski tallied an ace to bring the score to 10-8, decreasing the deficit to two. Green Terror kept the pressure, notching short runs to extend their lead. A kill from Grace Maggiore looked to ignite the Diplomats at 20-17, but McDaniel was able to finish the second set by a 25-20 score.
An ace from Franke capped off a 4-0 run for the Diplomats to start the final frame. F&M came out with a vengeance as a Kapustin kill extended the lead to six. A kill from Casey Morrow looked to keep F&M's lead, but McDaniel was able to tie the set at 13-13 and push to a 21-17. A Franke kill brought the score to 24-20 and looked to keep F&M alive in the set, but McDaniel was able to take the final frame and the match.
Franke led the offense with 10 kills and tallied seven digs. Setter Maggiore recorded a double-double of 26 assists and 12 digs while Ostrowski paced the defense with 13 digs and led with two service aces.
