BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's regionally-ranked No. 9 volleyball team tallied a 3-0 (25-7, 31-29, 25-16) victory over Bryn Mawr to remain undefeated in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday afternoon.
The Diplomats improved to 21-6, 9-0 CC while the Owls fell to 6-15, 0-8 CC.
Two kills from Allison Franke helped F&M to a 3-0 lead to open the match. Sparked by a kill from Casey Morrow, the Diplomats went on a 7-0 run that included three-consecutive kills from Grace Maggiore to take a 10-1 lead. F&M kept the pace with a block from Franke and Amy Mullen extending the deficit to 12. A Sarah Mirza kill brought the score to 22-5 while a Barbara Kapustin kill finished the set in F&M's favor.
The Owls responded in the second set, taking a 7-4 lead early on. A kill from Nicole Carey brought the Diplomats within two at 8-6. F&M trailed late into the set with back-to-back kills from Carey and Maggiore giving the Diplomats back the advantage at 25-24. Play remained tight, but a kill from Carolin Elgut ignited F&M on a 3-0 run to close out the set and an Elgut/Morrow block gave the Diplomats the 31-29 win.
F&M jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the final frame with Mullen tallying three aces behind the line. A Carey kill sparked the Diplomats on another short run to increase the lead to eight. A Natalie Weaver kill brought the score to 21-12 while Kapustin ended the set with a service ace to give F&M the match.
Maggiore, Carey, and Morrow each tallied nine kills with Maggiore adding 25 assists and six service aces. Carly Ostrowski led the defense with eight digs.
The Diplomats head to Cabrini on Wednesday for a non-conference match set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
