LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team notched a clean 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-19, 27-25) against Dickinson in the Mayser Center on Thursday evening.
The Diplomats improved to 7-4, 2-0 CC while the Red Devils fell to 4-8, 0-2 CC.
Amy Mullen opened the match behind the service line to help F&M to a 3-1 lead. Dickinson put the pressure on to take an 8-4 advantage, but the Diplomats kept chipping away with a Barbara Kapustin kill tying the game at 15-15. F&M ran with the momentum with Grace Maggiore recording four service aces as part of a 9-0 run. The Red Devils tried to recover, but a block from Kapustin finished the first set 25-19 in F&M's favor.
Dickinson looked to rebound, but two aces from Mullen helped F&M to a 6-4 lead early in the second frame. The Diplomats kept pushing with small runs, including a 3-0 run sparked by a kill from Allison Franke to extend the lead to four. An offensive spurt from Maggiore and Grace Polisano gave F&M 21-15 edge, while Maggiore finished the set with an ace for a final score of 25-19.
The Red Devils opened the third set with vengeance looking to force a fourth frame after jumping out to a 13-8 lead. F&M rallied back with an ace from Polisano tying the game at 18-18. Both teams battled, as the game was tied five more times before back-to-back kills from Casey Morrow gave F&M the 27-25 victory.
Maggiore tallied her sixth double-double of the year, leading the team with 10 kills, 23 assists, and six service aces. Franke followed with seven kills. Libero Carly Ostrowski cemented the defense with 10 digs, followed by Delaney Hahn and Carlita Bozzo with nine each.
The Diplomats travel to Haverford on Saturday, taking on the host at 12:00 p.m. before playing Alvernia at 2:00 p.m.
