ITHACA, N.Y. – Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team dropped to No. 22 Mary Washington by 3-1 score (26-24, 16-25, 22-25, 21-25) on Saturday afternoon to close out competition at the Bomber Invitational in Ithaca.
F&M dropped to 6-4 on the season and Mary Washington evened out at 6-6.
The Eagles came out with a quick 7-2 lead to start the match. The Diplomats slowly began to close the gap, and a kill from Christine Yoo tied the set at 19-19. Back-to-back kills from Delaney Hahn and Grace Maggiore extended the lead 23-20. An Eagles error gave the Diplomats the frame 26-24.
Mary Washington started the second set taking the lead 12-5. Errors kept F&M behind, and the Eagles took the second set 25-16.
The Diplomats started the third frame fighting to keep the set alive to force more frames, but after being tied at 8-8, Mary Washington went on a 9-3 run to take a 20-12 lead. F&M fought to within three with the score 22-18, but errors on both sides led the set to eventually fall in favor of the Eagles.
F&M started the fourth by taking a 9-6 lead with Cassie Garison serving confidently behind the line. The Eagles were able to turn the momentum around, and the score was tied at 18-18. After three unanswered points by Mary Washington, a Barbara Kapustin kill kept the score close, but the Eagles were able to hold off F&M and take the set and match.
Grace Polisano led the Diplomats with a double-double, recording 12 kills and 10 digs. Freshman setter Maggiore tallied 39 assists and eight digs. Hahn led with 18 kills and had one service ace.
The Diplomats travel to Carlisle on Wednesday night to start Centennial Conference play with a matchup against Dickinson at 7:00 p.m.
