LANCASTER, Pa. – Johns Hopkins took three close sets from Franklin & Marshall to defeat the Diplomats 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-19) on Wednesday night in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action at the Mayser Center. F&M fell to 10-8 overall and 3-2 in the conference, while Johns Hopkins improved to 8-9 and 4-1 overall.
The Diplomats took the lead early in the first set, holding leads of 12-8 and 20-17 as the frame progressed. The Blue Jays took their first lead late in the set, using a late run to win, 25-21.
The second set featured a stronger start from the visitors, leading by as much as 6 at 16-10. F&M fought back to 23-22, but another late Hopkins push let the Blue Jays hang on, 25-23.
Johns Hopkins continued to gather momentum in the third, putting together a 14-7 run in the middle of the frame to lead by as much as 18-11. The Diplomats again tried to rally, as Mikayla Grossman and Katie Foreman teamed up for back-to-back block assists, but the Blue Jays again held on to take the final set, 25-19.
The Diplomats return to action on Friday, hosting Haverford in a 7:00 p.m. CC showdown at the Mayser Center.
