YORK, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall volleyball team fell to Salisbury (28-4) by a 3-1 margin before taking down York (16-15) with a 3-1 score in a trimatch, hosted by the Spartans, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. With the split, the Diplomats wrapped up the 2013 regular season with a 24-5 record.
Against the Sea Gulls, F&M took a marathon first set by a 29-27 margin. F&M hit a remarkable .441 in the frame that included 19 kills and only four errors in 34 total attempts.
Salisbury answered with a 25-14 victory in the second to tie the match at 1-1. In the third, the Diplomats battled but fell by a 25-22 score. The Sea Gulls wrapped up the contest in the fourth with a 25-22 final to take the 3-1 match.
Julie Harvey paced the offense with 17 kills and a .519 hitting percentage. The junior middle hitter committed only three errors in 27 total attacks. Reigning CC Player of the Week, Caroline Hubbard, notched 43 helpers to go along with five kills and five digs.
Later in the day against the Spartans, a back and forth opening set resulted in a 29-27 win for the Diplomats. After going ahead 2-0 in the second with a 25-21 score, York denied the sweep with a 25-22 win in the third.
F&M wrapped up the contest with a dominant 25-12 score in the fourth. Harvey recorded a team-high 12 kills, followed by 11 from Sarah Landry. Hubbard tallied 39 assists, while Ezekiel paced the defense with 13 digs.
The Diplomats return to action next Saturday when F&M hosts the CC Semifinals at the Mayser Center. With the No. 1 seed in hand, the Diplomats will face off against the winner of the CC First Round that takes place on Wednesday.
