Series History: Franklin & Marshall welcomes Muhlenberg to the Mayser Center on Wednesday for a series in which the Diplomats are winners of nine-straight contests, dating all the way back to 2004. F&M has dominated the all-time series at 21-2 with the last meeting coming back on Oct. 4, 2012, when the Diplomats picked up a 3-0 sweep.
F&M seeks its first series win since 1998 with the hopes of maintaining the close all-time series lead, 8-7, when they travel play Salisbury in a trimatch at York on Saturday. These two teams last met on Sept. 22, 2012, when the Sea Gulls made off with a 3-0 win.
Later in the day, F&M faces off against York, intent on keeping control of the close all-time series lead at 22-21. Last season these squads met on Sept. 5th, when the Diplomats escaped with a 3-1 win. F&M hasn't lost in the series since 2008.
Last Week: F&M captured a pair of Centennial Conference (CC) victories last week that included a thrilling 3-2 comeback win against Gettysburg on Wednesday, followed by a 3-0 sweep of Dickinson on Saturday.
Against the Bullets, four Diplomats reached double-digit kills, led by Katie Foreman, Ellie Ezekiel and Emily Gerard with 15 apiece. Gerard committed a mere four errors in 28 attempts as the freshman outside hitter led the team with a .393 hitting percentage.
Offensively, F&M combined to hit at a .252 clip that included 64 kills in 151 attempts. The Diplomats served up eight aces, led by Parys Zambas with three.
Caroline Hubbard provided 28 assists over a span of three sets, while tacking on four digs and a service ace. Alyssa Sanchez led the defense with 16 digs, while Ezekiel was next with 15. Ezekiel also registered four blocking assists on the match.
The defense was in control throughout the contest, tallying three solo blocks and 20 assists while combining for 58 digs.
CC Top Five: Hubbard continues to lead the CC in assists per set with a 9.87 average, nearly an assist per set ahead of Swarthmore's Sam DuBois, who sits in second with a 8.93 average. Harvey continues to be one of the most effective hitters in the conference, ranking second with a .349 kill percentage. Defensively, the junior middle hitter is third in total blocks (85).
Doubling Down: Three Diplomats have recorded double-doubles on the season with Ezekiel leading the way with eight. All of the freshman outside hitter's double-doubles has come by way of kills and digs. Emily Gerard notched the first of her career on Oct. 12th against Catholic with a 10-kill, 14-dig performance. Hubbard has two on the season with her most recent one being against Richard Stockton on Oct. 12th in a 33-assist, 12-dig showing.
Player of the Week: Hubbard earned her first-career CC Player of the Week honor after leading the Diplomats to a 2-0 record last week in which the junior setter averaged 9.75 assists per set.
Playoff Bound: With a perfect 9-0 mark in the CC, the Diplomats remain in first place and have clinched a spot in the five-squad field with one conference match remaining. Muhlenberg sits in second place with a 7-1 conference mark. F&M can clinch the top seed in the CC Playoffs for a second-straight season with a win over the Mules on Wednesday.
