LANCASTER, Pa. - The Franklin & Marshall volleyball team recently handed out its team awards at its annual postseason banquet. Head coach Mary Kate Bolland and the Diplomats posted an 18-11 mark this past fall and advanced to the Centennial Conference (CC) semifinals.
In addition to the typical list of team awards, the Diplomats announced the inaugural winner of the new Diplomat Volleyball F&MILY Award. This accolade is given to the player who best embodies the teams' concept of hard work, selflessness, a positive attitude and performance in the classroom. Elise Gilchrist became first-ever F&M player to receive the honor, having also been named to the CC Sportsmanship Team in 2011.
Julie Harvey was named both the Team MVP and Offensive MVP after putting together a stellar freshman season for F&M. Harvey was named an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention, the AVCA Mid-Atlantic Region Freshman of the Year, the Centennial Conference (CC) Co-Player of the Year and made her way onto both the All-Mid-Atlantic and All-CC First Teams.
Katy May earned Defensive MVP honors with her play for the defensive specialist position for the Diplomats. She led F&M in both digs (407) and service aces (54).
May was also one of two Diplomats to receive Practice Player of the Year accolades, along with Gabrielle Connor. The Practice Player of the Year award is given to the players who consistently bring their best to practice each day, pushing themselves and their teammates to improve.
Connor and Heather Letzkus earned Most Improved Player honors.
