LANCASTER, Pa. - Lebanon Valley snapped Franklin & Marshall's nine match winning streak, while running their own to streak seven matches on the strength of a 3-0 win over the Diplomats (15-3) Friday evening at Mayser Center. The Dutchwomen (16-1) also snapped F&M's streak of 27consecutive games won in the process.
LVC's Emily Hopkins and Jess Raber presented problems for F&M all night. The pair provided LVC with an early punch that mixed with repeated unforced errors by F&M to put the Diplomats in a hole early in the first. Two timely tag team blocks by the Dutch duo in the second game snuffed out two Diplomat runs. Raber finished the night six kills, seven digs and a team-high three-aces.
The Diplomats committed 20 attack errors and seven service errors on the night.
F&M trailed by as many as 10 points in the opening game, before a Candice Tussing spike jumpstarted the F&M offense. The Diplomats managed to get the first game close, 24-18, when Stephanie Armstrong embarked on a six-point service run to get the Diplomats in striking distance. A blocking error on a Raber attack ended the Diplomats' comeback hopes in the first.
Propelled by the momentum of the win in the first, LVC went on to claim the match 25-22, 25-21, 25-22. Joelle Snyder recorded a match-high 10-kills for LVC, while Michelle Little added six.
Aside from the unforced errors, F&M was solid in its attack. Nicole Morano, Sydney Seydel and Candice Tussing offered up several authoritative kills throughout the match. Morano finished the night with eight kills. Seydel, Tussing and Kerry Rom each managed six, including an artful blow late in the match by Rom, who softly touched it past the outstretched arms of both Raber and Hopkins. Pam Horner fueled the F&M attack with 28 assists.
The Diplomats return to action tomorrow for two matches in the F&M scramble. The Diplomats will face Stevenson at 11:00 a.m., followed by a 1:00 p.m. meeting with Cabrini. Cabrini defeated Stevenson 3-0 Friday night (27-25, 25-23, 26-24).
