LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's tennis team dominated Dickinson on Thursday afternoon with a 9-0 shutout in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The victory marked the sixth straight conference contest that has been in the Diplomats' favor, improving their record to 11-4, 7-2 CC on the year. The Red Devils fell to 4-9, 3-6 CC with the loss.
With a win on Saturday in their final regular-season match of the season against Bryn Mawr, the Diplomats would clinch the No. 3 seed in the upcoming CC Playoffs and a key first-round bye in the tournament.
F&M opened with a 3-0 sweep in doubles with strong performances from Caitlin Rummelsburg and Sara Haas at No. 1 with an 8-4 decision, Nicole Russo and Dana Sleeper at No. 2 with a commanding 8-2 victory and Tara Buchney teaming with Emily Gruenberg at No. 3 for the 8-2 win.
Russo continued her strong performance at the top of the lineup, securing her sixth straight singles victory with a 6-1, 6-0 straight decision at No. 1. Rummelsburg followed in the No. 2 position with a 6-4, 6-3 win, while Haas rolled at No. 3 with 6-4, 6-0 scores.
Buchney (No. 4) cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 straight set decision, while Allysan Breece (No. 5) handled her opponent by 6-2, 6-2 scores. Sydney Fass rounded out the victories with an 8-3 decision at No. 6. Due to the contest being played indoors, conference rules dictate that after a match has been decided, any remaining matches become an eight-game pro set.
The regular season concludes on Saturday when the Diplomats travel to take on Bryn Mawr at 11:00 a.m.
