LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's tennis team rolled past McDaniel on Tuesday afternoon by a 9-0 shutout in the Alumni Sports and Fitness Center in Lancaster. The Centennial Conference (CC) victory improved the Diplomats (ranked No. 15 in the Atlantic South Region) to 7-3, 3-2 CC, while the Green Terror fell to 3-8, 0-5 CC on the season.
The Diplomats handily swept doubles action, led by the No. 1 team of Caitlin Rummelsburg and Sara Haas with an 8-3 decision. Nicole Russo and Dana Sleeper teamed at No. 2 for the controlling 8-0 shutout, before Tara Buchney and Emily Gruenberg took down their opponents by a lopsided 8-1 score at the No. 3 position.
Russo, ranked No. 20 in the region for singles, cruised by her opponent at No. 1 with a straight set 6-1, 6-1 win. Rummelsburg (No. 2) and Emily Gruenberg (No. 6) each improved their season records to 8-2 on the year after Rummelsburg captured a 6-2, 6-2 win and Gruenberg earned a 6-0, 6-0 shutout.
Tara Buchney (No. 4) and Megan FitzMaurice (No. 5) displayed the balance of F&M's potent singles lineup, after each blanked the opposition with 6-0, 6-0 straight set scores.
