Diplomats Take Two; Wrap up Spring Break Trip

ORLANDO, Fla. – Franklin & Marshall's women's tennis team closed out its spring break trip in Orlando with a pair of victories to conclude with a perfect 4-0 record in Florida. The Diplomats (4-1) took down Hamilton (6-1) by a 7-2 tally on Tuesday, before dominating Colby-Sawyer (10-7) with an 8-1 score on Wednesday. 

Against Hamilton, F&M swept the three doubles matchups to take a commanding 3-0 edge heading into singles play. A team of Sara Haas and Caitlin Rummelsburg led the way at the No. 1 position, handling their opponents by an 8-3 mark. 

Haas was also in control throughout her singles match, earning a straight-set win with scores of 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1. Tara Buchney was strong at No. 3 with a convincing 6-4, 6-2 sweep, while Rummelsburg downed her opponent at No. 2 in the super tiebreaker and Emily Gruenberg came away victorious with scores of 7-5, 7-6 (7-1).

Against Colby-Sawyer, the Diplomats once again were led by their doubles teams, earning wins at all three spots in the order. Buchney and Gruenberg faced little challenge at the No. 3 position, cruising to an 8-1 decision. 

Singles play was equally as impressive for F&M with Buchney (No. 4) and Gruenberg (No. 6) both shutting out their opponents with 6-0, 6-0 scores. Russo was also dominant at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-1 win, while Rummelsburg was solid at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Megan FitzMaurice (No. 5) remained in control throughout her matchup, downing her opponent at 6-1, 6-0.

The Diplomats open Centennial Conference (CC) competition on Saturday when F&M welcomes Muhlenberg to Lancaster for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
