EWING, N.J. – A 3-0 sweep in doubles action led the Franklin & Marshall women's tennis team to a 5-4 victory over The College of New Jersey on Sunday afternoon in non-conference play. The Diplomats snapped a seven-match home winning streak for the Lions and improved their record to 8-4 on the season, while TCNJ fell to 9-4.
Caitlin Rummelsburg and Anya Sahaydachny teamed up at No. 1 doubles for the narrow 8-6 win, while Megan FitzMaurice and Dana Sleeper (No. 2) captured an 8-4 victory for F&M. Nicole Russo and Emily Gruenberg paired up at No. 3 for the 8-5 win, allowing the Diplomats to remain perfect in doubles action on the day.
TCNJ captured four out of the six singles matches, however wins from Rummelsburg at No. 1 (6-2, 7-5) and Russo from the No. 3 spot (6-3, 6-0) helped seal the narrow victory for the Diplomats (ranked No. 8 in the Atlantic South Region).
F&M returns to Centennial Conference (CC) action on Wednesday when the Diplomats travel to take on McDaniel at 4:00 p.m.
