BALTIMORE, Md. - Franklin & Marshall fell 9-0 to No. 4 Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference (CC) women's tennis action on Wednesday. The Diplomats drop to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in CC play, while the Blue Jays move to 8-2, 3-0 CC.
Emily Gruenberg put up a valiant effort for F&M at No. 5 singles, stretching her matchup to three sets before falling in the third set super tiebreaker. The freshman suffered a 6-2 defeat to Olivia Kasten in set one, before responding with a 7-6 (7-5) triumph in the second. In the third, Kasten outlasted Gruenberg 10-7.
In doubles, the No. 3 tandem of Julia Fiala and Gruenberg posted the closest matchup for F&M with an 8-5 defeat to Lauren Fields and Staley Smith.
F&M returns to the court on Saturday for a pair of matches. The Diplomats open the day with a CC showdown at Haverford at 10:00 a.m., before returning home for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference tilt opposite Salisbury.
