F&M Edged at CSA Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Franklin & Marshall women's squash put forth a gutsy effort at the opening day of the CSA Team Championships on Friday, falling to Wesleyan by a narrow 5-4 score.

The No. 20 Diplomats dropped to 2-15 on the year while the No. 21 Cardinals improved to 11-11.

F&M will compete against No. 24 Colby tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. in the consolation bracket. The Diplomats secured an 8-1 win against the Mules earlier this season on Jan. 27.

By the Numbers 

With the overall score tied at 3-3, F&M and Wesleyan traded wins at No. 1 and No. 4 with Ellen Verry delivering a clutch 3-0 sweep near the middle of the order to keep the Diplomats' hopes alive. However, the Cardinals won the No. 7 match by a 3-1 tally to secure the contest.

Each of F&M's four wins occurred at the No.'s 3-6 positions on the ladder with Wesleyan controlling the top and bottom of the order. Only three of the nine bouts were decided in three games, while a pair went the distance at five frames.
