Diplomats Earn Split

LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 17 Franklin & Marshall women's squash team shutout No. 34 Dickinson by a 9-0 score before dropping a 7-2 contest to No. 13 Columbia in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at the Mayser Center. The Diplomats moved to 4-2 on the year with the split, while the Red Devils fell to 0-2 and the Lions improved to 2-0.

Against Dickinson, F&M rolled to three-game sweeps in all nine matchups. Lauren Johnston came away with a 3-0 win (11-6, 11-5, 11-6) at No. 1, while Dulakshi Elikewela at No. 2 (11-3, 11-2, 11-1) and Andreina Benedith at No.3 (11-5, 11-3, 11-0) each rolled at the top of the lineup.

Kate O'Brien cruised at No. 4 (11-5, 11-2, 11-1), while Katherine Perry at No. 5 (11-5, 11-2, 11-1) and Jazmin Matos at No. 6 (11-3, 11-3, 11-1) each faced little resistance from their competitors. The bottom of the lineup also provided solid performances for F&M. Cris Margaret Frias Gonzalez (No. 7), Krista Lancione (No. 8) and Henrietta Tookie Goelet (No. 9) led the charge with sweeps on the afternoon.

Later in the day against Columbia, No. 2 Sherilyn Yang and No. 9 Frias Gonzalez picked up both of the Diplomats' victories. Each registered a three-game sweep with Yang taking down her opponent at 11-9, 11-3, 11-7 and Frias Gonzalez coming away victorious at 11-3, 11-3, 11-6.

Fiona Murphy battled at No. 1, coming back from a 2-0 deficit to tie her match at 2-2, but fell in the fifth game by an 11-6 score. Johnston also took her opponent to the wire at No. 3, taking a 2-0 lead before falling in each of the final three games.

F&M returns to the court on Saturday, Dec. 6, traveling to Yale for an 11:00 a.m. contest.
