Softball Splits Action Against Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's softball team split a doubleheader against Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Tuesday afternoon. F&M dropped the first game 8-1 but bounced back to take the second game by a 4-1 score. 

The Diplomats ended the day at 12-16, 4-6 CC while the Red Devils finished at 16-14, 9-3 CC. 

Game 1: DC 8, F&M 1 – 7 Innings  

The Red Devils were the first to strike, taking a 1-0 lead in the first after opening the inning with a single followed by an RBI-double.

F&M broke through in the third, scoring off one hit and one error. With two outs, Shannon Briggs drew a walk to get on base and stole second to threaten. Jamie Belfer followed, reaching first on an error by first base. With runners on the corners, Sam Martin notched the RBI-single to the left side to tie the game. 

After a quick fourth, Dickinson's offense exploded in the fifth, tallying six runs off five hits, all singles, to take a 7-1 lead. The Red Devils tacked on one more run in the sixth off two hits, including a double, and an error to bring the score to 8-1. 

Martin, Ella Glenn, and Taylor Hudson each recorded a hit for the Diplomats.

Sabrina Ryan (7-8) took the loss after tossing for six innings, giving up 11 hits with one strikeout. Dickinson's Madison Milaszewski (9-4) garnered the win, throwing a complete game with five strikeouts.

Game 2: F&M 4, DC 1 – 7 Innings

Dickson got on the board first, breaking through in the second with one unearned run off an error and two hits to take a 1-0 lead.

F&M responded in the third with Belfer leading off with a single to right field and then stealing second base to get in scoring position. With two outs, Lexi Piccinich delivered an RBI-double to centerfield to even the score.

The Diplomats defense held Dickinson with no runners passing second base. 

In the seventh, F&M tallied three more runs off three hits. Caitlyn Erdman opened the inning with a double to centerfield while Glenn reached on a fielder's choice to get runners on the corners. Christine Miles followed with a ground-out RBI to send the winning run across the plate. Belfer notched her third hit of the game with a single to the shortstop and Abi Buell followed, drawing a walk to get on base. Piccinich came with the two-RBI single to centerfield to send pinch-runner Caitlin McCarthy and Belfer home and bring the score to 4-1. F&M's defense held out with three quick outs to close out the game.

Belfer led with a 3-for-4 line from the plate while Piccinich recorded three RBIs.

Emily Moll (5-7) registered the complete-game win, giving up six hits. Dickinson's Killian Kueny (5-5) took the loss after throwing for 6 1/3 innings with one strikeout and three earned runs.
