Diplomats Drop Two in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – Franklin & Marshall's softball team delivered two hard-fought battles but ultimately fell short, first to Concordia Chicago by a 1-0 score. The Diplomats then dropped to Lakeland in a 6-3 nine-inning battle.

The losses pushed the Diplomats to 5-3 on the year.

Game 1: Concordia 1, F&M 0 – (7 Innings)

The Cougars got on the board early with a solo homer in the first inning for the only score of the day.

F&M looked to even the score in the third inning when Jamie Belfer reached third off a sacrifice hit from Sam Martin, but Concordia's defense came away with two stops to close out the inning. 

The Diplomats' defense remained constant, committing no errors in six innings of action.

Belfer paced the offense with one hit on the day.

Sabrina Ryan (3-1) took the loss after tossing for six innings and tallying four strikeouts. Kate Roberts (2-1) notched the win, throwing for five and giving up one hit. 

Game 2: Lakeland 6, F&M 3 – (9 Innings) 

Both teams battled in the opening innings of action with Lakeland breaking through in the fourth scoring one run off two hits and a sacrifice fly.

The Diplomats responded in the sixth when Caitlyn Erdman led off with a double to center field. Lexi Piccinich followed the RBI-single to even the score.

The Muskies got a runner on third late in the seventh, but F&M's defense forced them out at home and was able to close out the inning tied. 

F&M came up with a quick three and out in the first extra inning but were unable to convert on the offensive end.

Lakeland opened the ninth with back-to-back sacrifice hits to send the go-ahead run across the plate. Andersen followed with a solo homer to extend the lead to 2-1. The Muskies tacked on two more runs off two hits to take increase the deficit to four.

F&M fought back in the final inning with Abi Buell tallying the RBI single to send Erdman home and decrease the gap. With one out, Delaney Cochrane recorded an RBI hit off a fielder's choice to send Buell home, but the Diplomats came up short on the next play.

Piccinich paced the offense, going three-for-four from the plate, followed by Ella Glenn with two.

Emily Moll (2-2) registered the loss, throwing for nine innings with one strikeout. Morgan Schiedemeyer (1-0) garnered the win, throwing for nine innings.
