CLERMONT, Fla. – Franklin & Marshall's offense carried the momentum into the third day of action, tallying a 14-3 (5 Inning) win against North Park before taking down Mount Union by an 8-2 score.
The wins improved the Diplomats overall record to 5-1 on the year.
Game 1: F&M 14, North Park 3 – (5 Innings)
The Vikings were the first to strike in the contest, scoring one run in the first inning off one hit and tacking on two more scores in the second off a two-RBI homer.
F&M got on the board in the third when Lexi Piccinich singled to center field to send Jamie Belfer across the plate to bring the score to 3-1. Sabrina Ryan kept North Park subdued with two strikeouts in the bottom of the third.
The Diplomats' offense exploded in the fifth inning, garnering 13 runs off nine hits. Sam Martin and Caitlyn Erdman started the inning with back-to-back hits to get runners on bases. Abi Buell notched the RBI single to get the scoring going. Elle Glenn took the walk to get the tying run across the plate.
Shannon Briggs kept the momentum going with a two-RBI double to increase the lead to 5-3. Strong base running kept the offense going as Jenna Mindrebo crossed the plate after an obstruction call by the catcher and Belfer reached home on a passed ball to increase the lead 9-3. F&M tacked on five more runs off four more hits to bring the final score to 14-3.
Ryan (3-0) earned the win after pitching for five innings with four strikeouts. North Park's Amara Leith (0-1) took the loss.
Game 2: F&M 8, Mount Union 2 – (7 Innings)
The Diplomats carried the pace into the second contest of the day, tallying six runs in the opening inning. Back-to-back walks set up Piccinich for the RBI-double that sent Martin across the plate. Buell followed with an RBI-single and then Ella Glenn tallied the three-RBI homer to clear the bases and extend the lead to 5-0. Belfer closed out the inning with a single up the middle to send Taylor Hudson home.
F&M kept the pace in the second with Buell registering the sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 7-0.
Mount Union never had a runner advance past second until the sixth inning when they tallied their two runs off four hits.
The Diplomats' defense held up, securing the 8-2 victory with a quick three-and-out in the final inning.
Emily Moll (2-1) earned the win after tossing for seven innings while Cheyanne Bosse (0-1) took the loss.
The Diplomats will take a day off before returning to action on Thursday, March 14, taking on Concordia Chicago at 11:15 a.m. and Lakeland at 1:30 p.m.
