LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's softball team opens its 2019 campaign this weekend with two doubleheaders slated against Mary Baldwin (Feb. 23) and Wesley (Feb. 24).
The Diplomats look to continue to develop after narrowly missing out on the Centennial Conference (CC) Tournament in the final weekend of the regular season last year.
Last season's senior class proved to be one of the most dominant in program history, leading F&M to its first Conference Title in 2017 and etching their names in the record books. Izzy Schaefer '18 ended her career first in the program in shutouts (18) and second in both wins (44) and strikeouts (314).
The Diplomats return a few keys players, including two-time All-CC First Team honoree Lexi Piccinich who led the team from the plate with a .406 batting average and set the program record with 15 doubles last season.
Twelve first-years will play an immediate role in the lineup and add depth across all the positions, with three new pitchers vying for time in the circle.
Lexi Piccinich | Jr. | 3B | .406/.449/.570 – 2 HRs, 22 RBIs, 15 2Bs
Christine Miles | Jr. | OF | .300/.382/.317 – 11 RBIs, 8 BBs
Ella Glenn | So. | 1B | .241/.333/.276 – 5 RBIs, 2 2BS, 8 BBs
Gabby Goodwin | Jr. | OF | .933 FPCT

A Look at Mary Baldwin
This weekend's competition is the season opener for both squads. The Fighting Squirrels notched a 1-30 overall record in 2018. Alli Bascunan returns after ranking second last season with a .235 batting average while sophomore Courteney Beck returns to the circle after notching Mary Baldwin's only win of the season.
A Look at Wesley
Wesley finished last season with a 13-17-2 mark. The Wolverines return hitting leaders Ashley Royer (.446/.486/.624) and Brandi Dalious (.405/.472/.759). Sophomore pitchers Dori Loukopoulos (4.28 ERA, 99.2 IP) and Abbey Mayse (3.83 ERA, 75.0 IP) look to do most of the work in the circle this season.
The Road Ahead
The Diplomats home opener will be against Arcadia on Thursday, March 21 at 3:00 p.m., while Conference action will also start at Baker Field when Washington heads to Lancaster on Saturday, March 30.
The Centennial Tournament opens on Tuesday, April 30 and concludes on May 3-4.
