CLERMONT, Fla. – Franklin & Marshall softball went 1-1 on the fourth day of Spring Break action, first falling to Ripon 3-1, before defeating Becker 5-2.
The Diplomats now sit at 3-5 on the year while Ripon improved to 5-8 and Becker dropped to 2-6.
Game 1: Ripon 3, F&M 1 – (7 Innings)
Ripon was the first to strike, taking a 1-0 lead off a sac fly to centerfield to gain a 1-0 lead.
The Red Hawks extended their lead to 2-0 in the second, scoring one run off two hits.
F&M was able to get on the board in the third to come within one. Sam Clemens tripled to left field to get in scoring position. Erin Russell delivered the RBI single up the right baseline to send Clemens across the plate.
Ripon increased its lead, scoring the final run off three hits to start the fifth inning and gain the 3-1 edge.
Russell led with a 2-for-3 performance from the plate, garnering her 100th career hit.
Katie Wenger (1-2) was credited with the loss after tossing six innings. Lexi Reetz (4-3) came away with the win, throwing for seven innings and recording five strikeouts.
Game 2: F&M 5, Becker 2 – (7 Innings)
Becker got on the board first, scoring on an RBI double to take the 1-0 lead.
F&M retaliated in the bottom of the first, opening play with two hits. Lexi Piccinich singled to the right side to send Russell across the plate to even the game at 1-1.
The Hawks took the lead back in the second, scoring an unearned run.
Getting back to the top of the order in the second inning, Clemens singled home Ella Glenn to tie the game. With two outs and bases loaded, Sammy Burns delivered a two-RBI single up the middle with Clemens and Izzy Schaefer crossing the plate and giving the Diplomats the 4-2 lead.
F&M extended its lead in the sixth, opening the inning with a single followed by two sacrifice hits to put Crystal Good in scoring position. Russell dealt the final blow with an RBI single off the left side to increase the deficit to 5-2.
The Diplomats outhit the Hawks 15-7. Russell recorded three hits and one RBI on the day.
Schaefer (2-3) tossed for the all seven innings, delivering nine strikeouts for the win. Samantha Lee (2-4) took the loss after throwing for six innings
The Diplomats finish up their Spring Break competition with a game against FDU-Florham at 9:00 a.m., followed by a contest with Lasell at 11:30 a.m.
