WESTMINSTER, Md. – Franklin & Marshall was unable to figure out McDaniel's Caroline Brehm as the Green Terror downed the Diplomats 3-0 in both games on Sunday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action. F&M fell to 16-6, 6-4 CC, while McDaniel improved to 17-7, 9-1 CC.
Brehm held the Diplomats' potent offense at bay in both games, as the senior threw two complete games. In game one, Patricia Crigler recorded F&M's only hits, a single to left field in the top of the second and a one-base hit through the left side in the top of the fifth.
The Green Terror scored their first run in the bottom of the third when Taylor Hishon hit a single to second base that scored two runs for a 2-0 lead. McDaniel added a run in the bottom of the sixth when Olivia Kipe reached first on an error to score Ally Galati, as the Green Terror went on to win 3-0.
Isabel Schaefer pitched well for the Diplomats, as the freshman threw all seven innings and gave up three earned runs while striking out eight batters.
Brehm gave up just two hits and struck out 13 for McDaniel.
In the nightcap, Brehm pitched again and F&M was could not put together a string of hits to plate any runs. Melissa Bollmeyer began the top of the first with a single, however Brehm was able to get out the inning unscathed. Crystal good began the top of the fourth with a single to left, but Brehm once again got out of the mini jam without allowing a run.
The Green Terror got on the board in the bottom of the first off a Lindsey Miller single down the right field line for a 1-0 lead, and added two more in the bottom of the fifth when Miller doubled to left center to score two and make it a 3-0 contest.
Schaefer (7-5) started game two and took the loss again, going four innings while giving up three hits and striking out five. Justine Lohrey relieved Schaefer and threw two innings and gave up two earned runs.
The Diplomats are back in action on Tuesday when F&M travels to Gettysburg for a double header beginning at 3:00 p.m.
