Diplomats Drop Two to Green Terror

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall dropped a doubleheader to McDaniel on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action. The Diplomats (8-12, 1-5 CC) fell in the first game 13-0 and lost the second 5-3 after falling short on a seventh-inning rally.

In the first game, the Green Terror (12-6, 4-0 CC) scored five runs in the first inning to take a quick 5-0 lead. McDaniel got four more runs in the third inning to make it 9-0 going into the fourth. The final runs of the game came in the top of the fifth as the Green Terror drove in four more to make the final 13-0 and end the game due to the eight-run rule.

Nicole Casey (6-6) took the loss for F&M after pitching all five innings.

McDaniel's Caroline Brehm (5-4) pitched a no-hitter, walking one, and striking out 10.

In the second game, the Diplomats tried to put together a two-out rally in the seventh inning, but came up short. Alicia Kukoda drove in two runs with a single to center field that scored Casey and Amanda Schellaci to pull F&M within 5-3, but the Diplomats were unable to pull any closer.

The Green Terror went up 1-0 in the top of the first as Jordan Beans hit an RBI double to left field to plate Rachel Sidney.  F&M responded quickly, getting its first run of the day in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 1-1. Samantha Ginder singled up the middle to bring home Danielle Murphy from second.

In the top of the third, McDaniel re-took the lead 2-1 off of a Jackie Liebowitz single through the left side that plated Brehmin.

The Green Terror opened up the game in the sixth as they notched three more runs to take a 5-1 lead. Liebowitz got her second RBI of the day when she singled up the middle to bring home Erinne Warrenfeltz. The final runs for McDaniel came off of a Stephanie Maring two-run bomb over the left field fence.

Justine Lohrey (2-3) pitched a complete game for the Diplomats in the loss.

Brehm (6-4) worked all seven innings for the Green Terror, walking five, striking out 13, and giving up three hits with three runs.

Kukoda was 1-for-3 driving in two RBIs, while Ginder went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

F&M's scheduled doubleheader at home on Saturday has been moved to Swarthmore on Thursday. Time is TBA.
