Three Named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes

LANCASTER, Pa.—Three members of the Franklin & Marshall softball team were named All-America Scholar Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for their work in the classroom during the 2010-11 academic year.

The award is given to any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher during the academic year.  Caitlin Brust, Julie Jefferson, and Liz Middleton did exactly that last year.

Brust appeared in 29 games last season, batting .275 with 14 hits, including a home run, and had a .978 fielding percentage, making only three errors in 134 chances.  Jefferson started all 36 games, recorded a .387 batting average, and led the team with 28 runs batted in.  Middleton appeared in 15 games, and tallied 27 fielding chances without an error.

Nationally, over 4,000 athletes representing 707 different academic institutions were honored.

The Diplomats will enter the 2012 season looking to build off a solid 2011 campaign, where the team equaled the school record for victories in a season with 22.
