F&M Splits In Extras

Franklin & Marshall needed extra innings in both games to split a Centennial Conference (CC) doubleheader against McDaniel Sunday afternoon. The Green Terror won the first game, 4-3, in eight innings before the Diplomats won the nightcap, 7-5, in 10 innings. F&M evened its CC mark at 2-2, 15-7 overall and McDaniel did the same with a 3-3 conference record, 8-12 overall.

Julie Jefferson put the Diplomats ahead 1-0, in the first inning of game one, with a fielder's choice that plated Danielle Murphy. McDaniel took a 3-1 lead in the fourth on a RBI single by Jaclyn Liebowitz and a two RBI single from Sara Erlichman.

F&M evened the game in the sixth when Murphy belted a two-run home run, scoring Megan Pauley, to make it 3-3. Liebowitz's one out double in the bottom of the eighth gave the Terror their walk-off win.

Erlichman (5-1) picked up the win for McDaniel going the distance with four strikeouts. Nicole Casey (6-5) took the loss for F&M pitching 7.1 innings with one strikeout and six walks.  Samantha Denoville led the Diplomat offense with three hits and Pauley had two.

Pauley's fielder's choice and Jefferson's sacrifice fly in the 10th inning of game two broke a 5-5 tie and eventually gave the Diplomats the win. Casey began the inning on second for F&M and was moved to third on a sacrifice hit by Amanda Schellaci. Pauley's bunt scored Casey before Pauley was eventual brought home by Jefferson.

The Diplomats went ahead in the first when Malorie Sassaman's single to left plated Murphy, who led off with a double, to make it 1-0. McDaniel took a 3-1 lead in the third using three hits and capitalizing on two F&M errors.

F&M responded in the fourth with a pair of runs to tie the game at 3-3. Schellaci's sacrifice fly to center scored Alicia McQuaide before Pauley's double scored Alicia Kukoda.

McDaniel went ahead 4-3 in the fifth before F&M knotted the game again in the seventh when a dropped fly ball plated McQuaide. The teams went tic for tac again in the ninth when Denoville's round tripper gave F&M a 5-4 lead before Erinne Warrenfeltz's RBI single in the bottom of the inning.

Allie McQuaide went seven innings for win and improved to 4-0. Casey pitched an inning to earn the save for F&M while Kaitlyn Vadenais (1-3) took the loss.

Sassaman paced the offense with three hits while Kaitlin Zampino and Pauley had two hits each.

The Diplomats return to action Tuesday hosting a doubleheader against Eastern at 3 p.m.
