Diplomats suffer first loss of season;

Sept. 16, 2006

LANCASTER - Franklin & Marshall suffered its first blemish of the season in women's soccer Saturday afternoon when it fell 2-0 to Swarthmore College at home in an excellent defensive contest.

The Diplomats had their chances - shots on goal were almost even at six for Swarthmore and four for F&M. Unfortunately, Coach Steve O'Day's squad was unable to find the back of the net in the ECAC loss.

In the ninth minute, Swarthmore's Katie Kanuka scored the first of her two goals when she nailed a right-footer far post to give the Garnet a 1-0 lead that would hold until halftime.

Kanuka came through again in the 81st minute when a shot eluded F&M keeper Robyn Jones; then the freshman unleashed a left-footer from 20 yards out to cap off the game's scoring.

Jones had a good game with four saves. Kelly Cassels, Jennifer Kahn and Kelsey Tylus all had several good shots on goal but were unable to capitalize.

The Dips hope to quickly regroup, as they face Cabrini Sept. 20th at home before returning to conference action with a Sept. 30th road matchup against McDaniel.
