READING, Pa. - A lone second-half goal proved to be the difference as Franklin & Marshall's women's soccer team suffered its first loss of 2019 in a 1-0 heartbreaker against PSU-Berks on Saturday afternoon.
The non-conference road tilt dropped the Diplomats' record to 2-1 on the year while the Nittany Lions improved to 1-2.
A scoreless tie in the 61st minute was finally broken when an F&M mishap allowed PSU-Berks to force a turnover deep in the Diplomats' defensive third. The Nittany Lions capitalized, landing a shot inside the near corner for the game-winner.
F&M didn't go away easily, firing off three shots on goal in the final 10 minutes, but was unable to sneak a shot past the PSU-Berks goalkeeper.
Despite the negative outcome, F&M dominated the stat sheet. The Diplomats led in total shots by a 13-5 margin, including an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal. Corners also belonged to F&M at 7-4.
Sara Ghorashi (1-1) was charged with the hard-luck loss after surrendering the lone goal and recording two saves in 90 minutes of game time. The Nittany Lions' Leslie Estrada picked up the shutout win with an impressive 10-save effort.
F&M returns to the field on Tuesday, traveling to nearby Elizabethtown for a 7:00 p.m. tilt.
