LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's defense put forth a valiant effort throughout Thursday evening's Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer contest, but eventually conceded a late second-half goal to McDaniel and fell by a close 1-0 score.
The Diplomats dropped to 5-8, 0-5 CC with the loss while the Green Terror continued to roll and improved their record to 11-1, 4-0 CC.
Neither team lit the scoreboard through the opening 80 minutes of action before a McDaniel corner on the far end of the field was lofted into the 18-yard box and found the head of Kristen Upton. F&M goalkeeper Nicole Savidge made a diving attempt to her right but was unable to get a hand on the ball as the Green Terror tallied the decisive score.
Mary Franco sent a ball on net in the closing minute but the shot sailed wide before time ran out on the Diplomats. The second half of action belonged to McDaniel's offense as the Green Terror outshot F&M by 12-3 margin in the frame, including back-to-back scoring chances from Nicole Hill midway through the frame.
The Diplomats only legitimate scoring chance came in the 77th minute when a McDaniel foul led to a Reanna Leoni freekick from 28 yards out. The sophomore forward sent a cross to the far post, but McDaniel's 'keeper stormed out of the net to make the play.
Savidge (4-6) was solid with six saves while Sarah McDonald (10-1) secured the Green Terror win after not facing a shot on goal. Shots favored McDaniel at 21-5 along with corners at 8-2.
Christina Wroblewski paced the Green Terror with five shots and Leoni led the Diplomats with two.
