SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall was blanked by Swarthmore 3-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Saturday night. The loss dropped the Diplomats' record to 1-6, 0-1 CC, while the Garnet improved to 5-1, 1-0 CC.
Swarthmore began the scoring early in the contest, as Elyse Tierney received a cross to the back post of the net and scored to give the Garnet an early 1-0 advantage.
The lead was increased in the 20th minute of the first when Emma Sindelar one-touched a goal over F&M starting goalie Shannon Johnson-Finn as Swarthmore went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, scoring opportunities were hard to come by, however the Garnet added to their lead in the 81st minute when Rebecca Mayeda played the ball through the left side and shot it low near the left post for a goal and a 3-0 lead as Swarthmore went on to win the first conference matchups for both teams.
Spencer Plante paced the Diplomat offense with three shots, while Johnson-Finn (0-4) notched four saves.
F&M returns to the field next Saturday for a home meeting against Ursinus at 3:00 p.m.
