Series History: F&M battles No. 10 Misericordia on Wednesday, a squad that narrowly defeated the Diplomats 3-2 a season ago in series' only meeting. F&M opens up Centennial Conference (CC) action at Swarthmore, a team the Diplomats hold a commanding 24-8-2 record against, including a 2-1 victory last season.
Last Time We Faced Misericordia: Three second half goals proved too much to overcome as F&M dropped a 3-2 contest to Misericordia on Oct. 30, 2013.
The Diplomats took an early lead around the midway point in the first when Stephanie Bartner scored off a free kick to give F&M a 1-0 edge in the 28th minute. The Cougars came out strong in the second half as Emily Esposito scored two goals in the first 25 minutes to give Misericordia the lead for good.
Last Time We Faced Swarthmore: F&M tallied a pair of first-half scores and held off a late Swarthmore charge to capture a 2-1 victory of Sept. 15, 2013.
With just over 13 minutes remaining in the opening half, F&M found the back of the net on a well-timed run from Nicole Rynecki into the box and a pin-point cross from Allyson Reid. Dribbling down the left side, Reid sent a cross into the center of the box, where Rynecki pounced forward and headed it into the near post for the 1-0 F&M edge.
Eight minutes later, Rynecki delivered again, nestling a shot on the ground into the far netting to give the Diplomats a 2-0 lead as F&M held off a late surge from the Garnet and won 2-1.
Last Week: The Diplomats were unable to come back from a two-goal deficit as Elizabethtown dropped F&M 2-0 last Wednesday night.
The Blue Jays' Maddie Burkhardt got Elizabethtown on the board just four minutes into the contest and again in the 23rd minute as both goals came within the first 25 minutes.
Shannon Johnson-Finn made seven saves, including six in the second half.
Saving the Day: Goalkeeper Johnson-Finn continues to rack up the saves, as she has 16 on the season, which is good for third in the CC. Haverford's Robin Chernow and Bryn Mawr's Aviva Kosansky lead the conference with 21.
