Diplomats Soar over the Pride in NCAA Action

LANCASTER, Pa. — Jane Cote dished out five assists and scored one goal to lead No. 5 Franklin & Marshall to a 17-3 victory over Springfield (13-7) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday afternoon at Shadek Stadium. With the five helpers, Cote became the seventh Diplomat to reach 100 career assists. The Diplomats improved to 16-4 and will take on Illinois Wesleyan next Saturday. F&M took an early 4-0 lead 13 minutes into the game, before the Pride netted back-to-back goals to make it 4-2. The Diplomats responded with six straight for a 10-2 lead at the break.  F&M continued to dominate in the second by outscoring Springfield 7-1 in the final frame for the win. 

In addition to Jane Cote's five assists and one goal, Ally Marino added three scores with one assist and Marissa McGarrey, Megan Jackson along with Tabitha Rodriguez both netted two goals each. Nancy Taylor had two goals with two assists, Maddie Hughes had a goal and a helper, while Maisie O'Shea and Eileen Cuneo had an assist each. 

Anya Chopoorian, Helen Mackay and Emma Arronson caused two turnovers each and Emily Kitchin improved to 10-1 with six saves in the net.

F&M led in shots 32-13, draws 15-7, ground balls 30-18  and went 16-for-19 in clear attempts.
