The Diplomats received one of 10 at-large bids (Pool C) to the NCAA Tournament after ending the regular season with a 15-4 record. F&M won the Centennial regular season and earned the top seed in the CC Tournament before falling to eventual champions Gettysburg.
The Pride, which have won its last 10 games and currently hold an overall record of 13-6, earned automatic qualification after capturing the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship with an 11-10 win over Babson on Saturday. The Pride's 10-game win streak is the longest such streak for the program since 2015.
F&M in the Tournament
The Diplomats are making their 21st NCAA Tournament appearance, and 13th in the last 14 years. F&M is 32-17 in NCAA Playoff games and 19-1 at home in NCAA games since the start of the 2006 Tournament. The Diplomats have advanced to the Final Four twice in the last four seasons and have won NCAA Championships in 2007 and 2009.
Springfield the Tournament
Springfield earned a trip to the tournament for the third time in the last four seasons. Last year, the Pride defeated Elms to advance in the NCAA Championship Tournament for the second time in three seasons, before falling to No. 9 Trinity. In 2016, Springfield College defeated both Bridgewater State and nationally-ranked Bates to earn the program's first-ever trip to the Sweet 16, resulting in a program-record 16 wins on the season.
The winners of the second round games will advance to one of four regional sites Saturday and Sunday, May 18-19. Winners of the four regionals will advance to the semifinals and final, which take place Saturday and Sunday, May 25-26 at Day Field in Ashland, Virginia. Randolph-Macon College and Richmond Region Tourism will serve as hosts for the championship.
F&M dropped to No. 5 in the latest IWCLA Poll, while Gettysburg moved up to the top spot in the nation.
