LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall's No. 4 women's lacrosse team delivered a 16-10 victory over Haverford in the Centennial Conference (CC) Semifinals on Saturday afternoon in Lancaster to advance to the program's seventh-straight Championship game.
The Diplomats improved to 15-3 while Haverford's season ended with a 10-8 mark.
F&M will take on the winner of Saturday's second Semifinal between No. 2 seed Gettysburg and No. 3 seed Washington in tomorrow's Championship game at 1:00 p.m. Stay tuned to GoDiplomats.com for updates.
Down by one score four minutes into the game, F&M fired off two goals in the 21st minute from Marissa McGarrey and Megan Jackson to take a 2-1 lead. The teams battled for the lead over the next four minutes with Tabitha Rodriguez adding to the score with a tally at 19:50. F&M's offense exploded after a Jane Cote score at the 17:35 mark, going on a 5-0 run over the next six minutes with two goals from Ally Marino and scores from McGarrey and Maddie Hughes. Grace Norley added on one more marker to help F&M to a 9-5 advantage at the break.
Haverford tallied the first two goals of the second half before Jackson ended the momentum off the assist from Norley 10 minutes into the half. Another goal from Jackson at the 16:27 mark sparked F&M on another 5-0 run over the next eight minutes to increase the lead to 15-8. Bridget Kane tallied the final goal of the day off her second collegiate score with just over two minutes left in action.
Three Diplomats (Jackson, Marino, McGarrey) recorded hat-tricks on the day while Cote led with two assists.
Emily Kitchin (9-0) was steadfast in the cage, turning away 10 shots and causing two turnovers. F&M led in draw controls 19-7 with Marino leading with six.
