Cote and Rodriquez Lead F&M Past Garnet

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Tabitha Rodriguez scored four goals and Jane Cote handed out five assists to lead No. 2 Franklin & Marshall to a 13-8 win over Swarthmore Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 6-2, 1-0 CC, while the Garnet fell to 7-1, 0-1 CC.

Tied at 1-1 eight minutes into the game, F&M went on a 4-1 run to go ahead 5-2 at 17:12. The Garnet struck midway through the first, but F&M answered with a 4-0 spurt – the last three goals by Rodriquez – to give the Diplomats a 9-3 lead at the break.

Rodriquez continued the run with a score 32 seconds in the second and the Garnet countered with four goals to come within three, 10-7, with 16:58 remaining in the game. Two goals four minutes apart made it 12-7 and the Diplomats put the final point on the board with a tally with just under minute to play.

Tabitha Rodriguez finished with four goals and eight draws, while Ally Marino netted three scores. Caroline Kolva, Juliann Lisovicz, Maddie Hughes and Marissa McGarrey all struck once for the Diplomats. Jane Cote dished out five helpers and Clare Monaghan ended with one. 

Maggie Hanzsche, Helen Mackay and Julia McKay all caused two turnovers, while McKay picked up five saves in net and improved to 6-2. 

F&M owned draws at 15-8, had a slight 17-16 edge in ground balls and went 13-for-15 in clear attempts. 

The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when F&M hosts Salisbury at 4:00 p.m.
