MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Nine Diplomats notched goals to help No. 10 Franklin & Marshall's women's lacrosse deliver a decisive 16-6 victory over No. 23 Messiah in non-conference action on Saturday. The Diplomats improved to 2-1 while the Falcons dropped to 0-3 on the year.
F&M got to work early in when Maddie Hughes got the Diplomats on the board just over three minutes into the action. F&M kept the pace, with Ally Marino and Megan Jackson scoring back-to-back goals in under a minute off Jane Cote assists. Hughes increased the deficit to five with two goals with just over 20 minutes left in the first. Cote and Marino tallied the next two scores, bringing the score to 7-0. Messiah notched its first goal halfway through the first, but Maisie O'Shea retaliated less than a minute later with an unassisted score. Juliann Lisovicz and Julia Arrese were the next to tally scores, helping the Diplomats to a 10-2 advantage at the half.
Tabitha Rodriguez got the offense going in the second frame, starting F&M on a 6-4 run that included goals from Marino, Bridget O'Donnell, Cote, and O'Shea over the next ten minutes to increase the lead to 16-6.
Marino led the offense with four goals, followed by Hughes with three. Cote tallied five assists and put away two scores.
Rodriguez and O'Shea came away with four draw controls apiece to help F&M to a 13-11 edge.
Julia McKay (2-1) earned the win turning away five shots on the day.
The Diplomats return to Lancaster on Wednesday, March 6 to host No. 7 Mary Washington for a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
