LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall advanced to Centennial Championship with a 12-8 victory over Dickinson Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved 16-3 win and will face Gettysburg in tomorrow's Championship Game at 1:00 p.m.
Dickinson took an early 2-1 lead three minutes into the game, before the Diplomats tied it at 2-2 two minutes later. The Red Devils went back on top at 22:03, but Paige Moriarty scored three straight for F&M to put the Diplomats on top 5-3 with 7:04 left in the half. Dickinson netted two straight and tied the game at 5-5 and F&M put one through at 1:02 to take the lead for good with a 6-5 edge at the break.
F&M opened the second half strong with a 3-0 run and took a 9-5 lead at 24:13. Both teams scored two minutes apart to make it 10-6, before Dickinson netted two to come within two, 10-8, with a little more than 10 minutes left to play. The Diplomats closed out the game with two unanswered to secure the win.
Paige Moriarty paced the offense with four goals and an assist, while Jane Cote netted two with three helpers. Moriarty tied Blake Hargest '10 for the most assists in program history at 160. Clare Monaghan and Megan Jackson both had a goal and two assists and Juliann Lisovicz had a goal and an assist. Nancy Taylor, Caroline Kolva and Grace Norley all ended with an assist.
F&M led in shots at 32-24 with a 14-8 edge in ground balls. F&M went 17-for-17 on clear attempts, but the Red Devils held an 11-10 edge in draws.
