Diplomats Survive Late Muhlenberg Surge

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall withstood a late second-half run by Muhlenberg to defeat the Mules 15-12 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action. The Diplomats finished the regular season with a perfect 9-0 mark in CC action and will host the conference tournament next weekend and improved their overall mark to 15-3. Muhlenberg fell to 7-8, 3-6 CC.

Muhlenberg jumped out to a 3-1 lead 10 minutes into the game and F&M answered with four straight for a 5-3 edge. The Mules countered with a pair and tied the game at 5-5, but F&M matched with two of their own and took a 7-5 lead into the break. 

The Diplomats opened the second with a 5-1 spurt and took a 12-6 lead with 14:21 left the play. Muhlenberg responded with four straight and came within two, 12-10, at 6:35. The teams traded goals over the next six minutes and F&M put the last point on the board with a little more than three minutes to play to put the game out of reach. 

Paige Moriarty finished with two goals and five assists while Clare Monaghan, Megan Jackson and Juliann Lisovicz all scored three goals. Jane Cote had two scores with three helpers while Katie Groenke and Ryann Laible both ended with a goal. Maddie Hughes had two assists and Monaghan added an assist to her line. 

Jackson caused two turnovers on the defensive end and finished with six ground balls and four draw controls. Danielle Harrington improved to 15-3 with 12 stops in the cage.

F&M outshot Muhlenberg 34-32, held an 18-14 edge in ground balls, while the Mules had a 16-13 advantage in ground balls.

The Diplomats return to action next Saturday when F&M hosts the winner of Dickinson and Haverford in the semifinals for the CC Tournament.
