LANCASTER, Pa. – Paige Moriarty scored five goals and handed out four assists to lead No. 5 Franklin & Marshall to a 21-11 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) action Wednesday evening. The Diplomats improved to 12-3, 6-0 CC with the win, while the Green Terror fell to 5-8, 1-5 CC. The victory was also the 200th for head coach Mike Faith.
McDaniel took an early 2-1 lead before F&M scored three straight and took the lead for good. The Green Terror came within one, 4-3, at 13:47 and F&M finished the half with a 6-2 run and took a 10-5 lead into the break.
After an early goal from the Green Terror in the second, the Diplomats rattled off five goals for a 15-6 lead at 17:08. McDaniel countered with a 3-1 run, but F&M responded with three of their own for a 19-9 lead at 8:03. The teams traded points down the stretch with F&M getting the last with 28 ticks on the clock.
Katie Groenke added four goals with one assist, Maddie Hughes had two goals with two helpers while Hannah Serling scored twice with an assist. Juliann Lisovicz scored twice and Nancy Taylor along with Clare Monaghan, Ryann Laible, Jane Cote, Grace Norley and Bridget O'Donnell all netted a goal. Cote also assisted on two goals.
Hughes added two caused turnovers on the defensive end with three draws and Anya Chopoorian ended with four draws and three ground balls. Danielle Harrington turned away eight shots and improved to 12-3.
F&M outshot McDaniel 38-27, held a 15-8 advantage in ground balls and went 13-for-17 on clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday when F&M hosts Washington at 4:00 p.m.
