LANCASTER, Pa. — No. 10 Franklin & Marshall defeated No. 16 Messiah 13-3 in women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 2-2 while the Falcons dropped to 1-2.
F&M went ahead 1-0 early with a goal from Katie Groenke before the Falcons answered on their next possession and tied the game at 1-1. It was all F&M after that as the Diplomats went on a 6-1 run to close out the half. Paige Moriarty had five in the run and Hannah Serling scored the other goal.
Moriarty made it 8-2 early in the second and after a goal from Messiah, the Diplomats scored five unanswered to close out the game. Hannah Serling had two in the run while Megan Jackson, Groenke and Moriarty all struck once for F&M.
Paige Moriarty ended with seven goals and two assists, Hannah Serling scored three times with two helpers and Katie Groenke had two goals. Megan Jackson scored a goal and had one assist and Jane Cote ended with two assists.
Danielle Harrington stood tall in goal with 12 stops and improved to 2-2 on the year.
F&M outshot Messiah 32-22, held a 10-8 edge in draws and had 23-15 advantage in ground balls.
The Diplomats return to action next Saturday when F&M travels to Cortland St. for a 12:00 p.m. game.
