LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's golf team is set to open the spring portion of its schedule this Saturday when the Diplomats compete at the McDaniel Spring Invitational.
The event is set to take place at the Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, Pa. with a noon tee time.
F&M returns just two golfers from last year's squad who placed sixth out of seven teams at last season's Centennial Conference (CC) Championships with an 830 total (411-419) through two days.
Four freshmen, who saw extensive playing time in the fall, are expected to make a big impact.
Among current players, freshman Sarah Acquaviva produced the lowest stroke average of the fall with a 100 average and a low round of 93 through five rounds. Ember Toth and Megan Whittier each return form last season's CC Championship lineup.
A Recap of the Fall
F&M saw its best fall performance at the Jefferson Tri-Match on Sept. 23 when the Diplomats finished just one stroke off the lead. Jefferson was first with a 383 total, followed by F&M (384) and Arcadia (403). Sarah Acquaviva placed fifth out of 14 competitors after carding a 97 at the par-72 course in Lafayette, Pa.
Inclement weather has forced several changes to the Diplomats' spring schedule. After competing in four events throughout the fall, F&M now has two regular season spring competitions en route to the 2018 CC Championships, including next Saturday, April 14th at the Dickinson Spring Invite.
The 2018 Centennial Championship is set for April 21-22 with the two-day event taking place at Conestoga Country Club in Lancaster.
New Conference Members
Marymount (Va.) and Neumann joined the Centennial as associate members for women's golf at the start of the 2017-18 season. Following the departure of Susquehanna to the Landmark Conference, the CC now has eight members that sponsor women's golf – Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall, Gettysburg, McDaniel, Muhlenberg, and Ursinus.
