YORK, Pa. – Lily Mynott's 53rd-minute goal lifted No. 10 Franklin & Marshall 3-2 over York on Tuesday evening in non-conference field hockey action.
The win improved the Diplomats to 14-2 while the Spartans dropped to 9-7.
On only the second F&M shot of the second half, Mynott notched the game-winner off a cross from Erin Coverdale, tapping the ball into the back of the cage to give F&M the win.
York was the first to score, taking a 1-0 lead just under eight minutes into the contest, but F&M responded a minute later after a foul in the circle led to a Caitlin Morrissey penalty stroke to tie the contest.
Both teams traded shots with the Spartans breaking through in the 23rd minute to take back the lead.
The Diplomats responded quickly, tying the game once again in the 24th minute when Coverdale collected a loose ball in the circle to record her 16th goal of the season and even the score going into the break.
York led in shots 14-8 during the game. Coverdale led the offensive charge with three shots on goal.
Ilianna Santangelo (14-2) earned the win after turning away five shots while York's Sam Keating (9-7) took the loss with two saves on the night.
F&M returns home on Saturday for the regular-season finale taking on No. 11 Johns Hopkins at 12:00 p.m.
