LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's No. 12 field hockey team notched its sixth shutout of the year after a 2-0 blanking against Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday afternoon.
The Diplomats improved to 8-2, 3-1 CC while the Garnet fell to 5-5, 1-3 CC.
F&M got on the board early when Erin Coverdale found the back of the cage in the seventh minute off an Emily Nagle corner insert. Coverdale placed a long shot into the top left corner for her tenth goal of the season.
The Garnet got their best scoring opportunity in the 10th minute after a shot from Ali Baratta, but Ilianna Santangelo was able to come up with the stop to keep Swarthmore off the board.
Caitlin Morrissey extended the lead to 2-0 after a penalty stroke in the 33rd minute. Morrissey remains perfect, going four-for-four in penalty strokes on the year.
F&M dominated possession throughout the game, owning a 35-3 advantage in shots and a 16-1 edge in penalty corners. Katie O'Loughlin led the charge with six shots, followed by Coverdale with five.
Santangelo (8-2) garnered the win after turning away two shots while Swarthmore's Zelda Bank (5-5) took the loss after an 18-save effort.
The Diplomats are on the road at McDaniel on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
