LANCASTER, Pa. – Three Franklin & Marshall field hockey players were named to the 2015 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-South Region Team, announced Monday. Maria Guarisco and Mary Kate Olson both earned a spot on the first team, while Bridget Falcone landed on the second team.
Guarisco (Cranford, N.J. / Cranford) garnered the distinction for the third time in her career, making her way onto the first team for the second straight season. The senior midfielder was a unanimous All-Centennial Conference (CC) First Team selection for the second consecutive year after leading the Diplomats and placing fourth in the conference in points (39), sixth in goals (15) and third in assists (9).
She had five game-winning markers on the season, registered a point in all but five contests and finished her career with the second-most points in program history (125), fifth-most goals (47) and second-most assists (31).
Olson (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) earned a spot on the first team for the third straight season after garnering first team All-CC accolades for the third consecutive year. The senior defender led a defensive unit that ranked seventh in the nation in shutouts per game (52 percent) and 10th in goals against average (0.90). Olson also contributed on the offensive end, tallying two goals and two assists.
Falcone (New Canaan, Conn. / New Canaan) receives the distinction for the first time in her career after also being named to the All-CC Second Team for the first time. The junior defender started all 21 of F&M's contests and helped key a unit that allowed a conference-low 19 goals, while shutting out the opposition 11 times.
The Diplomats ranked among the nation's top-10 teams throughout the season, advanced to the NCAA Second Round for the second consecutive year and producing a combined 17-4, 10-0 CC record.
