LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall is set to host Cabrini in the first round of the NCAA Field Hockey Tournament on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. Tickets will cost $5 for adults and $3 for students with ID's, senior citizens and children.
The NCAA Tournament appearance is the second in a row and the eighth overall birth for the Diplomats, who earned an at-large bid after falling to Ursinus by a narrow 1-0 score in Sunday's Centennial Conference (CC) Championship game.
Wednesday's meeting between F&M (16-3) and Cabrini (12-8) is one of eight first-round contests to be played in the tournament. The winner advances to the four-team regional, hosted by William Smith, to face off against Middlebury (16-2) on Saturday. William Smith (17-2) is set to host the other Sweet 16 matchup, taking on the winner of Catholic (13-6) and Bridgewater (Va.) (12-8).
Cabrini earned an automatic bid into this year's tournament after capturing the program's third Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship, and first since 2010, with a 2-1 win over Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday. Wednesday's matchup will be the second in series history, with the other meeting coming in a 3-0 Diplomat win on Sept. 5, 2009.
