LANCASTER, Pa. – Seven first-half goals propelled the No. 7 Franklin & Marshall field hockey team to a dominating 11-0 shutout of Bryn Mawr in Centennial Conference (CC) competition on Saturday afternoon at Tylus Field. The Diplomats improved to 8-2, 4-0 CC with the win, while the Owls are still searching for their first victory at 0-6, 0-4 CC.
Melanie Consiglio tallied a hat trick on the day, including a pair of scores in the second half. The junior forward has registered five goals in her previous two games and now has seven on the year.
Audrey Buckman tallied two goals, getting F&M on the board first off a feed from Clare Wirth just three minutes into action, and notching her second under a minute later to put the Diplomats ahead 2-0. Paige Notarianni recorded a goal and two assists, while Emily Nagle scored twice. Nagle recorded her first career goal off an unassisted tally in the 22nd minute, before lighting the scoreboard again in the 28th.
Sarah Powell and Maria Guarisco also scored for F&M in the opening stanza. Catalina Thomas, picked up her first career goal in the 56th minute, off a pass from Notarianni. The scoring was wrapped up by Notarianni in the 62nd minute when Phoebe Wood recorded one of her three assists on the contest with a feed from the right side of the cage.
Ilianna Santangelo (4-1) earned the win after starting the first half of action before being relieved by Ashley Gubernick after halftime. The Owls' Angela Meng (0-6) was dealt the loss despite 10 saves. Shots belonged to F&M at 37-0 and penalty corners at 15-0.
The Diplomats return to the field on Wednesday, traveling to Johns Hopkins for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
