LANCASTER, Pa. - Megan Kelly and Katie Cecere each notched a pair of scores to lift the No. 5 Franklin & Marshall field hockey team to a 5-0 trouncing of visiting Rhodes on Monday at Tylus Field. The Diplomats (13-1) have now reeled off a school-record 13 straight victories, while the Lynx fall to 8-4.
The two sides went back-and-forth early on, but Kelly's first score in the 20th minute turned the momentum in F&M's favor. The sophomore defender tipped in a shot near the goal line off a dish from Kristen Zublin to put F&M up 1-0.
Zublin tallied a goal of her own less than a minute later. The senior knocked home a loose ball in the middle of the circle for her team-leading 13th score of the season.
F&M continued to put pressure on the Rhodes defense in the second stanza, notching three additional scores for the 5-0 final. Kelly registered another close-range goal off an assist from Rachel Cooke in the 43rd minute to make it 3-0, before Cecere capped off the Diplomat scoring with two goals in a span of five minutes. Cecere one-timed a feed from Maura Hennigan to push F&M out to a four-goal edge in the 53rd minute, and deflected a hard-hit shot from Steph McDonald to close out the scoring in the 58th minute.
Lynx goalkeeper Jordan Robinson registered six saves in the loss.
